How slow and old can a laptop be to still be usable today? Well, an ancient Pentium II laptop running Windows 98 will be enough for internet browsing, Word and Excel, music and movies – and that is pretty much all that most of us ever need.
Yet, we don’t see Pentium II laptops anymore, even though they are cheaper than a lightbulb. People prefer new, expensive laptops with built in things like fingerprint security or webcams, even though they keep the laptop at home and still work with the same old Excel sheets, and never turn the webcam on.
And this is the only way it can be in our consumerism-obsessed society, and cheap laptops that we use today will similarly look old and cost nothing in two years from now. What, then, will new laptops of 2010 be like? We came up with a list of 5 new features that we think will become standard in each laptop very soon.

This is of course just a wild prediction and, like all predictions, will most likely differ from the real thing. You are welcome to disagree, any feedback on the list will be greatly appreciated.

Halloween is a specific holiday, dressing up in an original way requires months of preparation, and in fact you should probably start right now. For computer geeks Halloween is normally not a problem – the chances that they will just miss it again are great.
However, there’s a way out for those who have lost hope to see a Dracula-dressed IT-geek. With one of these bags it’s easy to camouflage a laptop that a computer freak will certainly like to take with them (“just in case the party is boring, you know”) without spoiling the general look. The costume may vary from James Bond to Jack the Ripper.
The bag can be used in everyday life, too. Walking down the street, you will appreciate what it feels like to be Marilyn Manson, for instance – surprised and amazed stares are guaranteed.

It has only been a couple of years since we forgot what a dial-up modem is. Now is the time to question if normal broadband itself has a chance to survive. With mobile broadband becoming faster and many new laptops being fitted with 3G/HSDPA datacards, the only real advantage of common home broadband is the cheaper price.
However, as the competition is getting tighter the prices fall. There are now three mobile broadband providers in the UK- we have put together a couple of tables, to help us choose the best.

Etsy.com is a great source of unique, unusual, ecologically correct things to buy. In case you never heard of it, it works somewhat similar to eBay, everybody can buy anb sell everything. The only requirement is that the product has to be handmade.
We have scanned the website in search of laptop accessories. There are lots. Here is our 10.
10. Macbook Air Envelope. Everybody has already seen a manila envelope. Manila envelope is a terrible choice, it does not protect against damage and it will attract thiefs, since now people expect envelopes to contain laptops instead of letters. This one is discreet, safe against impact, and will fit many other laptops with 13″ screen or smaller.

Each season of the year has its colour: winters are white, summers are red, the colour of autumn is yellow and the one of spring is green. Each fashion season has its colour too. But while we all know that snow makes winter white and fading leaves paint autumn yellow, it is completely incomprehensible what makes a colour dominate a fashion season. For example, the fashion world has seen a grey craze and an orange boom, but no-one knows why. What goes with the fashion today may be totally forgotten tomorrow, and according to Pantone Colour Institute, there are 10 major colours of spring 2008. We think that this concerns laptop “apparel” too, so here’s our collection of ladies’ laptop bags that may be in this spring.
Pink
Suede is never unfashionable, pink seems to be an-all time hit too, so it was a canny gimmick to combine these two things.
Olive + Red
It’s just a nice modest bag with plenty of pockets.
Green
Tired of plain colours? This bag looks quite refreshing, a perfect spring accessory.
Red
Red is another universal colour, and this spring the red colour is deep and mat. A striped version of the bag is also available, each stripe representing a fashionable colour of this spring: green, grey, dark yellow, blue.

Cantaloupe
If you are not quite sure what the word “cantaloupe” used by Pantone means, you could take a look at this bag – its soft colour is very similar to the colour of a cantaloupe muskmelon. The bag is available in some other hit colours, such as green and silver grey.
Silver grey
The grey colour is cold, and silver grey is even colder. But the bag looks so stylish that it does warm one’s heart.

Blue
“You can do anything but lay off of my blue suede shoes”, sang Carl Perkins half a century ago.
If I were the owner of this blue suede bag, I’d probably say to the people who’d ever attempted to touch it to stay away. Suede is never unfashionable, you see.

Finding yourself laptopless can cost a lot more than just the laptop. All of us have been there, at least to some extent, with important files missing and days of work wasted for nothing. What is then the best way to prevent the worst-case scenario, the theft?
The first thing that comes to mind is to tie the laptop up to the table leg. However, there is a better strategy to prevent your data getting into the wrong hands, and it is just a piece of software.
A thin client application is used to transmit physical location of the laptop to a monitoring network. It is possible to remotely delete information or limit the usage of the machine by locking it up after a certain amount of time. This feature can be a lifesaver if a laptop with sensitive information is stolen.
GadgetTrak Verey will start recording via connected camera (e.g. iSight) and send emails to the owner’s email address. The email will contain all the necessary network information as well as nearby wireless networks and video clips captured by the camera.
Nobody is safe from having a computer stolen – Marks & Spencer, Nationwide, Prince Charles and Salma Hayek have become the latest victims of laptop theft. But this time, at least you will have a picture of your thief, which you can later microwave or throw darts at.

20 Years ago, schoolboys dreamed of videophones, laptops were called “microcomputers”, and were the size of a small house. They were cooler than a spaceship. They were spaceships themselves, taking us humans away from analog jungle to digital concrete.

I personally feel a bit of disgust touching a mouse of a public internet café that has a million fingerprints on it, with people eating, drinking, coughing and sneezing right next to me. Is there an antivirus, a real one?

The simplest way of protection is the regular use of cleaning wipes. However, there is a better solution – washable laptop accessories, Belkin washable mouse and flexible silicone keyboard.
Both the mouse and the keyboard are absolutely water-resistant and can be rinsed under the running tap water. The germs will be wiped out of existence, and spilled coffee will not be a problem anymore.

An ugly laptop is a mystery, by today’s standards. Hundreds of people develop, improve and polish the design of any product, so when an ugly laptop is launched, it always makes us wonder how this could possibly happen. Tastes certainly differ, but you never expect them to differ so dramatically. Anyway, let’s take a look at our Top five.
5. Lenovo Olympics Limited Edition Laptop

It seems that the Chinese are so proud of hosting forthcoming Olympics that building several impressive monumental sport venues was just not good enough for them. However, while the design of their
4. XO Laptop

Although creating a cheap laptop for children from developing countries is a commendable idea, the laptop looks as if it was made not for Third World countries, but for Another Galaxy ones. We of course understand that the aim of the developers was to cut down expenses, but the laptop does look odd anyway.
3. Augmentix XTG630

Augmentix laptop reminds of the laptops of the late 80’s era. But as this laptop is capable of operating in extreme conditions and is the choice of the military, we can forgive the designers its prehistoric look.

Being a gaming laptop, Dell XPS 1730 doesn’t look business-like, and it’s a plus. But if all gaming laptops looked like that, this world would be a very scaryplace to live in.
1. Xbox 360 Elite laptop

Here comes number 1, the elite laptop beast. To be fair, turning Xbox into an Xbox laptop was a minefield of design difficulties, and it showed. The laptop is so ugly, the design cannot be taken seriously, it is just one huge prank. Hats off to the designer Ben Heck.

Recycle, Recycle, Recycle!
The beat of these words is getting louder and louder, as the world is running out of oil.
Nothing is left behind. Car tyres, beer bottles, liposuction fat, newspapers, chicken feathers, november rain, shit, sunrays, dead people, broken tea cups- anything can be recycled, anything at all.
Virtual things can be recycled too. Books into movies (Lord Of The Rings, Lolita, Harry Potter), comics into movies (Batman,
How about Vincent Van Gogh into a laptop bag? Korean company BarewallsKorea does just that- manufactures laptop bags, mouse pads and wall clocks that can be customised with a reproduction of Monet, Kandinsky, Renoir and many distinguished others.
A shortcut to style approved by centuries, it needs to be approached with caution. True art is not meant to be used as a coffee mat- there is a difference of having a laptop bag made by Van Gogh and a Van Gogh made to look like a piece of luggage.
